Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take Medicaid?
No, the Breakwater is a private pay building. Our Care Center accepts Medicare/ Medicaid and most insurances.
 

Will my Long Term Care Insurance pay for anything?
This will depend on your policy as many require you need be in a licensed assisted living building, not independent living. Please check with your financial planner or policy holder.
 

What is your age requirement?
Anyone 55 and over may apply.
 

What happens if I run out of money?
We can refer you to a service that can assist you in placement to find a community to fit your needs.
 

I am a diabetic, do you have a special menu?
We do not provide special diets. All of our dining is restaurant-style with varied options.
 

I need help with insulin injections?
We do not have a 24/7 Nurse, therefore we cannot give you injections. If you have pill form insulin, we can provide Med Management.
 

Do you have a Nurse on staff?
Yes, our Nurse is here Monday- Friday 9am-5:30pm. We do not have a Nurse available 24/7. We do, however, staff our Resident Assistants around the clock.
 

What does your Nurse do?
Our Nurse oversees residents who have Medication Management Service. Our Nurse is also available for general questions regarding medical concerns. If you have an emergency, you will need to call 911.
 

Do you have a doctor that visits residents?
You will maintain all of your own doctors. If you are moving from out of state, we have complied a list of geriatric doctors in the area, some of which do stop out to visit.
 

Do you provide evening and weekend transportation for residents who gave up driving?
Our complimentary transportation services run Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. We do provide transportation to planned programs such as concerts and outings from time to time. We also drive to several churches on Sundays.
 

Can I bring my dog?
We only accept cats with a one-time non-refundable pet fee.
 

Can I smoke in my apartment?
We are a non-smoking facility.
 

Can I bring my motorized wheelchair?
We do not allow motorized wheelchairs, as our apartments are not wheelchair accessible.
 

Do you have security?
We ask all visitors to sign in and out during business hours. Our doors lock at 8:30 pm and all visitors need to be buzzed in via resident.
 

Do you have staff 24 hours a day?
After the business office closes, we transfer our main line to a cell phone that is carried by an on-site Resident Assistant.
 

Do you have pull cords?
We do not. However, we can refer you to a company that provides emergency pendants. We can be listed as the first responder when setting up service.
 

Do you accept credit cards?
Sorry, we do not. Checks or Money Orders only.
